BCBA Career Path Focused on Telehealth Parent & Staff Training – Viability and Experiences?
I’m currently pursuing my path toward becoming a BCBA and am intentionally trying to shape my future role around tele-health based services rather than traditional in-person ABA.
My primary interest is in providing parent training and school/staff consultation remotely, supporting both neurodiverse and neurotypical students. I’m especially drawn to a model where I function more as a consultant, coaching parents, guiding teachers, and helping teams implement effective strategies rather than running full direct-service caseloads.
I’m curious if anyone here has built (or attempted to build) a similar model. Specifically:
• Have you been able to sustain a tele-health heavy BCBA role focused on parent/staff training?
• What types of clients or referral sources worked best for you?
• Did you operate through insurance, private pay, or a hybrid model?
• What challenges did you run into (e.g., buy-in, outcomes, reimbursement, scalability)?
• Would you recommend this path, or are there limitations I should seriously consider before committing to it?
I’m trying to be intentional early on rather than defaulting into a traditional model and pivoting later. Any real-world insight would be extremely helpful.
