BCBA + GLP-1 Behavior Modification – How to Enter This Space?
I’m currently on the path to becoming a BCBA and am interested in exploring how behavior analysis can intersect with GLP-1–based weight loss treatments (e.g., supporting individuals using medications like semaglutide or similar).
I’m specifically curious about building a role focused on behavior modification within this space. Helping clients with adherence, habit formation, lifestyle changes, and long-term maintenance while on or transitioning off GLP-1 medications.
I wanted to ask:
• Has anyone here integrated ABA or behavior analytic principles into weight loss or GLP-1-related services?
• What kind of settings or roles would allow a BCBA to work in this area (e.g., private practice, medical clinics, tele-health coaching)?
• Are there additional certifications, training, or collaborations (e.g., with MDs, dietitians, or health coaches) that would make this more viable?
• Is this something that realistically fits within a BCBA scope of practice, or are there ethical/credentialing limitations I should be aware of?
• If you were starting from scratch with this goal, what steps would you take first?
I’m trying to identify a niche that is both impactful and scalable, and this seems like a growing area. Any guidance or real-world insight would be appreciated.
